Nature's Sunshine Review

Product Name: Nature's Sunshine

Website: https://www.naturessunshine.com

Founders: Gene and Kristine Hughes

Price: $40, Can be Waived

Recommended: Yes, but it's not the best way to earn money

What is Nature's Sunshine about?

Nature's Sunshine is, at present, one of the oldest multi-level marketing companies, under the health and wellness category. Founded in 1972 as a family business by Gene and Kristine Hughes, the company is now over 40 years in existence.

The founders had a noble cause behind the establishment of the company - to provide solutions to health problems and mainly save lives.

Because of their ambition, the company came about, which quickly became one of the first companies to make herbs into capsules so that more people can experience their health benefits. Before this technology, people had to eat them directly, no matter their unsavoriness. Blech.

It is because of their innovativeness that the nutritional supplement market experienced an upheaval. Herbal ingredients are, in fact, mainly encapsulated everywhere. Probably not only thanks to them, but the company certainly played a significant role.

The company also put up the Hughes Center for Research and Innovation, comprised of notable scientists, medical professionals, and biological research experts. The center maintains the quality of the products and preserve the research being carried out for all their supplements, Quite impressive.

Given this history, I am almost compelled to say this is a legit MLM company and push you into joining, but I won't.

There are a lot of companies that started as good business opportunities and turned out to be people's worst nightmares when their money got stuck. So it is still best to gather more information.

Nature's Sunshine Products

Nature's Sunshine has A LOT of health-related products. They have over 600 products under ten categories. I could not even count on one hand the number of supplements I take to stay healthy and functional.

On the one hand, though, this is excellent news. There's no way a scam company will manufacture so many supplements. It also means as a distributor; if you decide to join, you have many products to sell. Your prospective customer could at least find one to buy.

On the other hand, giving your customers too many choices can also overwhelm them, and finally, you can lose sales. That's how marketing works.

The ten major product categories are:

  1. Energy Vitamins
  2. Herbs
  3. Essential Oils
  4. Enzymes
  5. Brain Health
  6. Digestion
  7. Body Cleansing Solutions
  8. Antioxidants
  9. Amino Acids
  10. Personal Care
  11. Vitamins
  12. Weight Loss

I find that their products can overlap with each other.

For instance, Tiao He® Cleanse (15 Day) is said to be able to improve the person's intestinal system and promote regular bowel movement. But another product, Liquid Cleanse (16 fl. oz.), is mostly designed to do the same. It is said to support intestinal, bowel, and liver health

Should you become a distributor, it is crucial to understand ALL THESE FACTS when selling and explain the supplements and solutions adequately. You do not want to be the cause of customers' ill-health. That can damage you as a person, not just as a distributor.

What I mean here is that the products you are going to be selling are not merely clothing or the typical soaps. These are products that are going to be taken orally.

Make sure you will not be spreading products that can do more harm than good.

Costs to Join Nature's Sunshine

If ever you should decide to become a distributor, you need to observe the following steps. The first thing you need to know is that this will cost you. This is not free.

To join Nature's Sunshine, you have to fork out $40. For me, after reviewing so many MLMs, this is a decent fee. In fact, I think it is one of the lowest joining fees I have seen.

Moreover, if you can buy $40 worth of products, then this fee can also be waived. That's a good deal. You cannot find the same deals with other MLM companies. Herbalife, which is a close rival to Nature's Sunshine, offers a start-up kit at $49.95 and no option to waive.

However, if you want to undergo specific training to become a capable Nature's Sunshine distributor, you need to spend more. There are two options. If you wish to get the IN FORM Coach certificate, you need to pay $549. If you want to spend less, you can go for online training, which costs $399.

How to Earn with Nature's Shine?

Nature's Sunshine is an MLM company. As such, there are two ways to earn here:

  • Retail Commissions
  • Downline Commissions

The retail commission is what you make if you sell Nature Sunshine's products. Downline commissions are what you receive from recruiting people. You can obtain from their sales and their recruits' sales as well.

MLMs are set apart by their compensation plan, so it is best to understand Nature's Sunshine's. This plan gives you an idea of what you can earn as commissions, whether for retail or downline.

Nature's Sunshine, in particular, has two compensation plans, the Classic and Legacy, which are going to be differentiated below.

As an affiliate, regardless if your plan, whether classic or legacy, you can earn additional bonuses. These are given according to an affiliate’s membership rank:

  • Regional – $250
  • Divisional – $400
  • Senior Divisional – $550
  • National – $700
  • Senior National – $850
  • Global Elite – $1000

Annual summits and conferences are also offered to higher ranked affiliates.

The Classic Program

The Classic program is best for you if you want to be a distributor. It means you plan to earn mostly just by selling Nature's Sunshine's supplements. This plan is for you if you wish to own and manage a health and supplement shop.

Essentially, this plan is for you if you genuinely believe in the company's products and know that you can sell them.

However, if you do not like the idea of recruiting, you must think twice. It's not that easy to pitch to another person about how lucrative joining an MLM is in the first place!

The Legacy Plan

The Legacy plan might be for you if you want to sponsor others to be NSP distributors and create a network of downlines. This is better also if you plan to buy Nature's Sunshine's products for yourself.

Whichever plan you choose can determine your Smart Start bonus. Your residual commissions and the distributor membership rank depends on qualification criteria you will meet.

For you to qualify for rebates and commissions from a downline, this recruit's purchase or resell should be at least worth $100 in products per month.

What plan you opt to be in determining your level of rebates for the products you will personally purchase.

Classic vs Legacy Commissions

The major differences between Nature’s Sunshine’s two plans lie in their:

  1. Smart Start Bonus
  2. Uni-level residual commissions
  3. Affiliate membership rank qualification criteria
  4. Rebates offered to Affiliate’s Own Product Purchases

Smart Start Bonus

The Smart Start Bonus is offered to newly recruited affiliate orders that can generate not below 100 QV. If you are a classic plan holder, then you can make up to 30% on these first orders. Those in the direct manager position or higher ranked upline can earn a 10% commission. Those in two ranks can earn additional of 5% bonuses.

The Legacy plan increases the recruiting affiliate’s commission up to 40% on the first orders. However, the upline commissions are similar to the Classic plan.

Unilevel Commissions

Nature’s Sunshine gives residual commissions through a so-called unilevel compensation structure.

You, as an affiliate is at the top of a unilevel team and affiliates you recruit are placed directly under them (Level 1). Recruits of your affiliates are placed on level 2, and recruits of those in level 2 are placed on level 3…so on and so forth.

This is quite typical of MLM companies.

Commissions are given as a percentage of the sales volume made by the affiliates. The percentage is based on your membership rank. The percentages are also different per rank depending if you choose classic or legacy.

Under the classic program, you can qualify beyond the 5th level at the Global Elite level if you are able to have “100 International Managers” in your downline.

Under the legacy program, to qualify for commissions beyond level 6 at the Global Elite rank, you must have at least “100 international Managers” in your downline.

Unilevel Commissions Table

  • Star – 12% on level 1

Star – 10% on level 1

  • District – 12% on level 1 and 4% on level 2

What I Like about  Nature's Sunshine

Apart from having no reason to believe that the company is a scam, I like those two things about Nature's Sunshine:

#1 - Great Support and Comprehensive Tools

The company has several training programs and tools for you. If you join as an independent distributor, you will get proper business guidance. You can participate in monthly webinars and yearly conferences to improve your selling and recruiting skills. If you want to stay long in the MLM business, the training is crucial.

As an independent distributor, you can also access a members-only online community where you can learn more skills to last in the business. You are also entitled to a personalized website to sell your Nature Sunshine products.

#2 - Strict Product Quality Control

The company has strict product control practices that make sure the supplements will not cause issues.

Even though these products are not FDA-approved, they do strictly observe and adhere to the standards and regulations governing dietary supplements. A third party non-profit organization, NSF International, also certified these products, which essentially means they met control standards set for manufacturers to observe.

Even though joining is not free, it seems that its worth it, especially when I consider Nature's Sunshine's products quality and quantity.

I am not sure you can earn big if you stick to selling and no recruiting. However, for me, it does not appear that you will have difficulties in maintaining a loyal customer base if the products are of high quality.

What I don't like about Nature's Sunshine

However, I also have solid reasons why I do not think you should join Nature's Sunshine.

#1 No Income Disclosure, Not Enough Transparency

I do not like the company's lack of an income disclosure statement. If I consider how big of a company it is and how long it has been in business, I find it suspicious. I think Nature's Sunshine should be disclosing how much distributors are earning.

If the company has an income disclosure plan, then it will be easier to gauge if people are earning what they thought they could make.

Unlike other MLMs, such as Herbalife, I cannot establish if distributors are earning as promised. Using commonsense, however, if distributors are making money VERY WELL, then the company should be happy to disclose this.

If not, the distributors themselves should be the ones gushing about their earnings. I cannot find enough of them online.

#2 Not Easy to Earn Commissions and Rebates

While the two compensation plans look decent enough, I do not think you can make that much. Being a Nature's Sunshine distributor should not be your day job at all.

Unless you build a massive network of recruits and downlines, you will just be putting yourself through financial hardship.

What I can find more about is not distributors' reviews. Instead, I found a lot of positive customer reviews. Just a testament to the quality of the company's products. Check out one review below:

What is Nature's Sunshine About? Reviews

The PROS of Nature's Sunshine:

  • High-quality products
  • Real Owner and years in business
  • Substantial support

The CONS of Nature's Sunshine:

  • lack of income disclosure plan
  • lack of explanation on compensation plan
  • too MANY products

What is Nature's Sunshine about? A SCAM? FINAL VERDICT

What is Nature's Sunshine about? An MLM out to scam your money? I can answer this with a resounding NO. It is not a scam.

The company is legitimate and has a decent compensation plan at that.

However, I am not sure if you can earn well with it. The company not having an income disclosure plan is a significant hindrance in determining how much you can make.

Compared to other MLMs, I know, however, I think your hard work can pay off here. So I will still recommend it.

I do not think you'll become rich or can leave your day job. However, selling its high-quality health supplements can at least earn you an additional grocery budget for sure. People are not that hard to convince if you tell them your products can make them look, feel, and be healthier.

What is Nature's Sunshine above? Even though I recommend joining it, I still think you should always look into other earning opportunities. You do not have to stick to only one side hustle!

I can recommend you to check out affiliate marketing! Affiliate Marketing is one of the most lucrative business nowadays; the best part of it is that you can achieve a passive income WITHOUT SELLING OR RECRUITING. If you want a headstart, I can point you to Wealthy Affiliate. You can join them for free to see if this is something you like to do.
